BDSM is all about pain and torture…
The Myth
“Please water board me, please I need it” I have never even heard of anyone uttering these words. To some is supposedly BDSM is all about pain and torture. There are a couple issue with this statement. One torture is involuntary where as BDSM requires consent. Another is there is so much more to BDSM then pain. Lastly I would have to retaliate to the assumption “lifestylers” all enjoy pain.
So first things first: Torture is used to get information from someone and coerce them to give that information using pain and discomfort. BDSM on the other hand requires consent and a vast amount of communication. People have limits on what they will do, on things the certainly won’t do, and even in things that they will possibly do. None of that is involuntary or used to coerce information from the submissive or masochist.
Next thing I would like to address is that BDSM is all about pain and torture directly. Yes pain is one aspect of BDSM and can be an important one based on each individual. And no BDSM is not at all about torture. There may be feigned scenes involving torture but in my opinion that does not qualify. The list of fetishes/kinks covers a vast spectrum of things from cunnilingus all the way to flogging and beyond. Everything from extreme pain and body modifications to just loving to give head. So to say that BDSM is all about pain and torture is just an outright lie.
This last part is going to be kind of short cause it is very simple. Not everyone enjoys the same thing. So it is simple to say not all people involved in BDSM enjoy pain.
As we can understand by definition of torture we can not relate it to responsible BDSM. Not all people who enjoy the kinkier side of life are into pain. So with these two things we can denounce the rumor of BDSM is all about pain and torture.
